Penguins vs. Penguins

11/17/2009, 11:50am (CDT)
By Penguins '97 AA Hockey

The Penguins took on the Penguins, and as anticipated, the Penguins won.  (Ok, couldn’t help it).  In a very close match, with a record number of penalty minutes, Larson’s 97 team pulled out a victory.  The 97’s fought off power play after power play.  For half of the game, (20 minutes to be exact, without counting two, two and ten penalties), the 97’s played short-handed.

Starting the scoring in the first, the 97’s scored first at 4:40 in the period.  With just three seconds left in the period, the 97’s scored on a powerplay.  On their own powerplay, the 98’s got their first goal.  Just nine seconds later, the 97’s scored again.  The 98’s got another goal ten minutes into the period.  At the twelve minute mark, the 97’s got into additional foul trouble again with two players in the penalty box at the same time.  Fortunately, even playing with just three skaters for a whole two minutes, and with great goal tending, the 97’s were able to squash the penalty.  The final period, at 2:44 into the period, found two more 97’s in the penalty box after drawing a whistle on the same play.  Again, the 97’s were able to pull together and kill the penalty with only three skaters vs. five.  At 6:47 in the period, Landen Williams, scored his third in the game and getting his hat-trick!  The final goal was scored by the 98’s at about ten minutes in the period leaving the end game total 97’s 4, and the 98’s 3.  Shots on goal, 98’s 22, and 97’s 15.
