Weekend Summer Pond Hockey with DSEHC

Background
Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club (DSEHC) are hosting a 4on4 summer pond hockey season. This is a great time of year for players to work on their skills while having fun.

Pond hockey develops creativity as it allows players to come out and work on making new moves in a fun and competitive environment whereas camps are designed to teach moves and skills. Like any sport players need to practice what they have learned in a game situation and pond hockey is the perfect place to do that. We welcome players from all associations and encourage each and every player to come participate in this.

How will this be run?
- Players will register by emailing jordanfrench@thompsontransfer.com
- We will split the teams up each week to make sure they are even, so the games are fun for everyone.

- Score will be kept
- Every 90 seconds the buzzer will blow which will allow the players to know when to change.
- There will be no coaching, but the benches will be supervised.
- Each game water bottles and one official will there.
- This will be a non contact league and will be run strictly to promote creativity.
- In the event a penalty occurs, the player who sustained the infraction will be awarded a penalty shot.

Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club Established

USA Hockey is in the midst of change.  Several local organizations have recognized this and have begun to modify their programs for the future.   Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club (DSEHC) has been established.  It is a cooperative effort between the Dallas Stars Midget Major AAA, Dallas Stars Selects (DSS) and Dallas Junior Hockey Association (DJHA). The DSEHC will have its U18 and U16 teams participate in the Midwest Elite League (MWEHL) for the 2009-10 season.  The MWEHL is the top league in the Country in terms of competition and player exposure. We will also offer teams at the following age groups: U16 (tournament team), U14 (95), U13 (96), 97, 98, 99, and 00.  The Stars Elite Hockey Club will have the premier coaches and facilities in Texas.  The new club will be under the leadership of Dwight Mullins, Adam Robbins, Eric Silverman, and Marty MacInnis.

The Stars Elite Hockey Club will bring a new approach to Dallas hockey with the focus on player development and exposure.  It is also based on proven leadership and coaching at the National level.  Additional information on our coaches, fall program, and new innovative spring program will be available in the coming weeks.  The teams will be based out of the Valley Ranch and Farmers Branch Dr Pepper Stars Center facilities.

”All of us associated with the Dallas Stars are excited about the prospects of the new Dallas Stars Elite Hockey Club.  We will work closely with USA Hockey and all the organizations who are undertaking this effort.  It is a giant step forward for amateur hockey in Dallas.  We believe our facilities and the coaching staffs that are part of this will offer the best hockey players in the region a terrific opportunity to advance themselves as players, and importantly as young men.”

Mite Majors Win NTXHL Championship

Penguin_mite_champs_large

Capping a highly successful season, the number 1 seed Penguin Mite Majors won the league championship tournament in a convincing style, winning two straight in the best of three finals series.  The youngsters outscored the gritty cross town rival Brahmas team 10-1 over the two games on Saturday.  The Brahmas came out strong, scoring with only 1:48 gone in the first period of game one.  But the Penguins tied it up 15 seconds later and never looked back, winning 5-1.  Game two was much the same, and five different Penguins scored in the 5-0 win.  The Brahmas defense held the Penguins to only 19 shots in game two, but the Pens defense was even stingier allowing only 9 Brahmas shots.  The two Penguin goal tenders teamed up all tournament long to shut down their opponents.

Clearly the Brahmas played with a lot of heart and had great support from their parents and fans.  Visible with their unselfish play, the Penguins showed once again how the coaches’ focus on skill development plus team play gave them the edge they needed throughout the season.

All year the Mites had great coaching and great support from the parents which when combined with their hard work yielded a perfect league record (20-0) and playoff run (6-0).  They won 5 of the 7 tournaments they entered including the Chicago Pre-Season Mite AA and the Fifty-First International Silver Sticks Mite Championship.  Overall, they finished 39-2-0, outscoring their opponents 310 to 54 (a 7.56 vs. 1.32 GPGA) and produced the league’s scoring and goalie champions.  It proved to be a very special team all around.  Congratulations Mites!

Squirt AA NTXHL Champions Roll Perfect 6-0 in Playoff's to Cap Off 2008-2009

Champions_98_aa_2009_large

First off, the Dallas Penguins 98 AA’s Coaching Staff and families tip their collective hat to the Dallas Scots 98 AA’s for their effort, fan enthusiasm and well played final round!

Ultimately, it’s the one intangible that you’ll never see a statistic for what lead to the Penguin championship…Composure. “You can’t teach that” Commented Head Coach Kevin O’Brien, “but you can definitely nurture it” The nurturing process this year came from the boys playing the finals in 3 of 5 tournaments. They learned hard work and team execution is essential to being a champion.
Having to comeback from one goal deficits 4 times in 2 games, the Penguins played with a sense of urgency and never gave up a lead once they had it.

Game One:
Cole Watson pulled the Penguins even at 1 late in the first period off great passes from Nick Griebenow and Josh Kim.
Down 2-1 in the second, Nick Alexander tied it up at 2-2, and Nick Mueller pulled the Pens even again to end the second period 3-3.
In what became their strongest period all season, the Pen’s pulled away in the third, with the Game Winner coming from Mitch McCoy, and an insurance goal from Alexander, whose top shelf back hander came off a clean face off win from Johnny Sadowski deep in the Scot zone. The Defensive trio; Jake Sobieksi, Niko Ala-Kokko and Matthew O’Brien stood strong supporting goalie Kevin Graves in holding the Scots to 3 goals as the Penguin offense pumped 33 shots at the Scots.
Game Two:
Nick Mueller took a feed from Boone Hoenshell and Griebenow tying it at 1 on the power play.
In the second period Watson put the Pen’s ahead with a nice assist from Kyler Paredes and Kim. Mueller gave the Pen’s a two goal lead they would not relinquish weaving down low beating 2 Scots before cashing in the power play Game winner. Kevin Graves and a full Defense with Matthew Butler held down the fort in the third with a strong back check from all the forwards for his sixth playoff win.
Game, Season, Champions!

Season Recap:
Texas Shootout Champions
Fall Round Champions
Silver Stick Regional Champions
NTXHL Regular Season Champions
NTXHL Squirt AA Playoff Champions

Coach O’Brien and staff are very proud of the boys, and want to congratulate them again for their effort and attitude!

Coach would also like to acknowledge and thank the parents for their commitment and support in making this season such a great success!

Dallas Penguins Squirt A Team Wins NTXHL Championship

Djha_squirt_a_large

Lefebvre Dallas Penguins Squirt A team, completed an outstanding season by capturing the NTXHL 2008-2009 Championship in a 2 game sweep against the vastly improved Grapevine Wolves.

Lefebvre Dallas Penguins went 19-0-1 in regular season play to win the NTXHL Regular Season Championship, which brought tremendous momentum to the playoffs. Winning 3 of 4 games in the semi-finals and only allowing 5 goals, thanks to the defensive play of Nicolas Samadian, Neil Moisan, William Laird, Seiler Burr, and Goaltender Jared Stahel, the Penguins earned top spot going into the Championship series.

The first game went scoreless virtually the entire 1st period when with 3:06 left on the clock Nicolas Samadian and Ryan Dupre assisted Lane Haught in putting one of many Penguin goals past the Wolves goalie and into the net. Two more goals came shortly after when Conner Simpson scored on a penalty shot and Zach Riley scored ending the first period 3-0.  Within the first minute of the 2nd period Grapevine scored back to back goals to quiet the Penguins fans, but that would be the only Grapevine Wolves goals of the game. Jared Stahel and the Penguins defense dominated the remainder of the game to win with a final score of 7-2.

The second game was a nail-biter. Zach Riley was the first to score on an assist from Nicolas Samadian; however the Wolves would answer back just seconds later. Play went back and forth with each team scoring 2 more goals. Just as everybody watching thought it was going to overtime, with only 1:42 left in the tied game Lane Haught scored on an assist from Joseph Crump.  Now it was all up to the Penguins defense to keep the Wolves out of the zone and win the game. With a final score of 4-3 the Penguins Squirt A team wins the NTXHL Championship in back-to-back wins over a tough Grapevine Wolves team.

Eight different Penguin players had points during the final 2 games; it was a testament to the passing, communication and teamwork evident throughout the entire season.

Thanks to all of the Coaches, parents and players for making this a great season.

CONGRATULATIONS Penguins Squirt 98 A team on winning both the NTXHL Regular Season and NTXHL Tournament Championships!!!!

P3070041_large

DJHA Bantam AA coached by Mike Aigen and Jason Aigen beat the Stars Selects on Sunday to win 2008 - 2009 NTXHL Bantam AA Blue Finals.  The Penguins won the 2 out of 3 game series by winning game one by a score of 2-1 and game three in a shootout 3-2.

The Stars Selects won game two by a score of 2-1.  These were all very tight games with goaltending at its best.  Dakota Dreger and Brendan Strobel-McLean, goalies for the Penguins, played outstanding games to keep the Stars Selects goal scoring to a minimum.
