Bauer Motown Champions!

16U AA Wins Bauer Motown Supremes Division!

The 16U AA Dallas Penguins traveled to Detroit to play in the Bauer Motown Classic (formerly Warrior AAA) tournament.  The Penguins started pool play against St. Clair Shores winning 5-0.  The team posted 2  short handed goals on 4 penalty kills.

Next up Friday afternoon was the Naperville Sabres CSDHL team.   The Penguins won 4-1.  The final game of pool play was an early morning game against the Michigan Ice Hawks.  The team wasn’t at their best and lost 1-2.

This forced a 3 way tie in pool play for the right to proceed into playoff quarterfinals.  The tie breaker was goal quotient and the pens scored the most goals and gave up the fewest – putting us pool winner and a guaranteed spot in the quarterfinals.  The top 8 included the 5 pool winners and 3 wildcards.  2 of the 3 wildcards came from the Penguins bracket - something that rarely happens in tournament play.  The Penguins ended up as Seed #5 going into the quarterfinals.

The Pens played #4 seed Carolina Stars in the quarter finals and won a close game 2-1.  Sunday morning brought the semi-finals against the Ted Reeve Thunder from Toronto.  This team was undefeated coming into the semi-finals and ended last season ranked #2 in the Ontario rankings.  The Penguins played strong and won 3-0.

The Championship game Sunday afternoon put the Penguins against the #1 ranked USA team, Chicago Blues.  The Penguins were ready and took a 2-0 lead in the first period.  Chicago came out for the 2nd playing more physical and scored one goal 8 minutes into the half.  The Penguins weren’t deterred and scored again with 5 minutes left in the game.  Chicago took penalties allowing the Penguins to control the puck for the last minute of the game – ending the game with a 5 on 3 advantage.

This was a first – a Texas team winning this tournament at Midget.  The team also posted 18 goals in 6 games; allowing only 5 goals against.   Congratulations to all the players on an amazing weekend!

16U AA DSTHL Champions

16U AA Pens win DSTHL Championship

The Penguins 16U AA team sweeps the Jr. Brahmas in 2 games in the league Semi-Finals for the right to compete for the championship March 11-12th.   The Pens faced HC Dallas in a 2 of 3 series for the championship.  Game #1 resulted in a 3-0 win.  Game #2 resulted in a 4-1 win.  The team previously won the Texas Tier 2 State Championships and will represent Texas at USA Hockey Nationals in April.  The team finished with a 51-7-1 record.

Penguins win 16U State Championship!

The Dallas Penguins 16U AA team entered as the #1 seed in the Texas State Championship tournament Feb 24-26, 2017.  The team won all 4 games capturing the Championship trophy and banner!

Game #1 was against the Houston Wild.  Pens won 6-1.

Game #2 was against Hockey Club Dallas.  Pens won 6-3.

Game #3 was against the Texas Jr. Brahmas.  Pens won 6-4.

Going undefeated in pool play gave the Penguins the #1 seed for the Championship game.  It took until well past 11pm Saturday night to figure out who we would face the next day.  The other 3 teams tied and it took 6 tie breakers to have a team advance to play.

The Championship game was against Hockey Club Dallas.  Pens won 3-2!  The Pens will advance to USA Hockey Nationals April 6-10 at our home rink in Plano, Texas!  Gives meaning to the phrase -- Bring it Home!
