The DJHA Penguins Mites won the Silver Stick AE Finals tournament that took place January 10^th – 13^th, 2008 in Ontario, Canada.

 

The Penguins triumphed in all six tournament games, and never trailed at any point. The boys were able to collectively peak as a team as they competed against some of the best teams from the United States and Canada. For the Silver Stick AE Finals tournament, the Pens scored sixty goals and only allowed nine goals against.

 

Beginning on Thursday, January 10^th, the DJHA team came out fast and ready to play against the Dayton, Ohio Bluehawks in the classic Memorial stadium in Niagara Falls. The Pens won 11-0 earning the shutout by allowing only five shots.

 

In the second game on Thursday, the Pens played in the Niagara Falls Stamford Arena against the Delco Phantoms from Aston, Pennsylvania. DJHA continued to play like a team with a purpose as they won 14-1 allowing five shots.

 

The Friday games began at 7:00 am against the Orangeville Flyers from Ontario in the Seymour-Hannah Centre where the remaining games of the tournament were played. DJHA played a tough opponent that would not give up. DJHA jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period. Orangeville then got involved with the goal scoring exchanging goals with the Pens for the rest of the game. The Penguins ended up 7-4 winners.

 

The quarterfinals game on Friday was against the Easton Ice Hawks from Columbia, Maryland. The Pens unleashed their offensive fury winning 16-2 with seven different Penguins notching a goal.

 

On Saturday at 6:45 am the semifinals was a rematch with the Orangeville Flyers. The Penguins anticipated a tough game as the Flyers came on strong in the third period of the first meeting on Friday. In arguably the best game by the Pens for the tournament, the DJHA team put together a solid effort cruising to a 7-0 win by only allowing six shots.

 

Sunday morning the championship game was set with the Whitby Wildcats from Georgina, Ontario. DJHA skated like their previous wins from the Silver Stick international tournament as the balanced scoring attack motored the team to a 4-0 lead after two period with no shots against the boys. The Wildcats never shut down though and were able to put up two goals in the middle of the third period, but the Penguins dropped in a fifth goal to squash the hopes of a Whitby comeback. When the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed DJHA beating the Wildcats 5-2. The Penguins won the championship.
