Pens beat Houston Wild AA for chance at State title

The Bantam 2K team traveled to College Station, Texas to face the Houston Wild AA 99 team in a State Tournament Playdown series.  It was a best of 3 series.  The first game on Saturday went thru 3 16 minute periods, 5 minute overtime and a 6 skater shootout with a loss of 4-3 for the Penguins.

The boys came out strong in Game 2 Saturday afternoon and won a hard hitting game 5-2.  This forced a game 3 for Sunday morning.

It was do or die on Sunday.  The Penguins started off slow but ended the 1st period tied 0-0.  In the 2nd period, the Penguins went down 0-1 before coming back strong with 2 goals to take the lead 2-1.  Late in the 3rd period, Houston tied it up on a breakaway 2-2.  The Pens didn't give up and scored again to make it 3-2.  Houston pulled their goalie in the final minute to gain a man advantage.  Evan Williams made a huge glove save with 13 seconds remaining in the game.  The ensuing faceoff allowed the Penguins to shoot the puck down the ice from the blue line and into the empty net to take a 4-2 lead with 2 seconds remaining.

The Bantam 2K team will be the only 13U team to qualify for the 14U State Tournament, to be held Feb 21-23 in Dallas.

Way to go Penguins!
