The Dallas Penguins 99 Bantam AA team went 5-0 this weekend enroute to the Nashville President's Day tournament championship.
The weekend started out with a 3-1 win over the Kansas City Stars on Saturday morning followed by another 3-1 win over the Chesterfield Falcons.
On Sunday the Penguins defeated the Brandon Jr. Bulls 2-0 with Reid Robertson in net getting the shutout and then in the evening game the boys came alive beating the Nashville Jr. Predators 6-0 led by a hat trick by Jacob Plattner and a shut out by goalie Chris McElroy.
On Monday the boys waited to hear who they would meet in the championship as the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes played the Chesterfield Falcons for the right to play in the final. When the Hurricanes won 7-4 the final match was set.
The game started out close 0-0 through the first period. Then in the second the Penguins opened the scoring with a goal by Andrew Warhoftig, assisted by Keegan O'Donoghue and Caden Halverson. A short time later the Penguins scored again on a solo effort by Alexander McBey from just outside the circle. The second period ended at 2-0 Penguins.
Three minutes into the third the Penguins struck again as Jacob Plattner drove deep into the zone and hit Hank Schurig with a pass crashing the net, Hank shot and the rebound was buried by Connor Nehls for what turned out to be the game winner as the Hurricanes mounted a late rush and scored two goals to make it close.
