The DJHA Bantam Major team completed a very successful DSTHL regular season and playoff round with a sweep of the Texas Jr. Brahmas Bantam AA team on March 7, 2015.  The Penguins went undefeated in the semi-final round of the playoffs, scoring 18 goals for with only 3 goals against.  They also went undefeated in the best two-out-of-three finals, scoring 6 goals and yielding only 1.

The first game of the finals was a 4-1 win for the Penguins.  Rafael Praysner opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 5:29 of the first period, followed by a goal from Griffin Sugasawara, with an assist from Adam Doucette.  Late in the first period, the Jr. Brahmas forced a turnover, resulting in a breakaway and their only goal of the game.  Early in the second period, the Penguins answered with a point shot from Christian Spearman, assisted by Brendan Skinner.  The final tally in the game came from the stick of Adam Doucette into the empty Brahmas net.  Ethan Williams was the winning goalie, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced.

The Penguins and Brahmas were back at it late in the afternoon for game 2.  Although the Penguins outshot the Brahmas for most of the game, it was deadlocked 0-0 until, with one minute left, Rafael Praysner managed to break through with a goal, assisted by Ryan Casey and Brendan Skinner.  Griffin Sugasawara finished the scoring with an empty net goal 16 seconds later.  Evan Williams earned the shutout and the win, saving all 11 shots he faced.

For the combined DSTHL regular season and playoffs, Coach Pfeiffer’s Penguins earned an overall record of 25-1.  During these games, the team scored 126 goals while only surrendering 35 and shut out its opponents 11 times.

The Penguins will wrap up their season with a trip to the USA Hockey Tier 2 National Championship Tournament in Salt Lake City March 26-30, 2015.
